"The World Out There"

With Lauren now 5 weeks old, Lorraine and I are determined to resume as "normal" a life as possible. OK, have a chuckle or two on what arguably may well be a delusional goal but hey, we're going to try, nevertheless. So after determining that we must venture back into "the world out there", we decided to go where we recalled most normal people seemed to congregate: Banana Republic and the Gap. It wasn't easy but here's how our Saturday went...

10.05 Decision made to go to BR and the GAP
10.07 Feeding time for Lauren (bottle fed by Henry)
10.10 Lorraine begins pumping breast milk
10.36 Lauren has a blow-out as we get ready to bathe her
10.40 Start bath (Lauren enjoying her bath is either hit or miss; we missed)
10.56 Bath concluded; mini-breakdown of parental units in the process
10.57 Henry into shower; Lorraine tries to get Lauren to sleep
10.59 Henry out of shower
11.01 Lorraine into shower; Henry now trying to get Lauren to sleep
11.31 Lorraine out of shower, hair dried, both parents dressed
11.32 Lauren wakes up, pees
11.43 Lauren in new outfit and car seat, diaper bag check, load up stroller
11.52 Stroller in back of car, Lauren in car, engine turned on
11.53 Lauren wailing her hunger cry
11.57 Feeding Lauren in the back seat of our car in the garage
12.16 Lauren fed, burped, and content (we hoped)
12.16 Henry puts the car into reverse
16.32 Back home; Lauren fed and in bed; parents collapse onto sofa

Despite all the chaos, we got out there and strolled through the stores. Lauren slept while we were at BR but started crying when we were in the GAP (I think it was because I said she couldn't have a certain outfit in the BABY GAP section). Our first real adventure "out there" was a pretty good success and we got some new real grown up clothes in the process. In fact, we continued on our adventure and drove up the next day, Sunday the 14th, to see Grandparents Lee in Santa Monica. Needless to say, although we made it out and back alright, we'll still need a bit more practice before we can start to cut our times down. I've found my old stopwatch so we'll be going for it. OK, here's some more recent pics of Lauren between 1/11 and 1/15:

Sounds like a st'd outing.
Our children at 5 weeks old changed and fed themselves.Or was that 5 years old? Anyway Lauen is beautiful as usual, but the parents aren't looking too good.

Love,

Grandpa Goias

Well, sounds like a roaring success to me! Russell is almost six months old and I find that the majority of my days still find showering before 3pm a challenge. Congrats on dividing (the pre-outing tasks) and conquering (the outing) with style and grace.
Love and kisses,
Aunt Christine

P.S. Lor- you haven't truly arrived until you breast feed in the changing room at Macy's during a clearance sale.

You've definitely got us beat. Libby's hatred of the car keeps us housebound most days.

And I don't want to alarm you -- but I think something's wrong with Lauren. She doesn't seem to be screaming and crying in every picture. Libby has sworn up and down to me that this is standard operating procedure for babies. Could she have lied to me?

Seriously, what a doll! And the new outfit (from Grandma and Grandpa Lee?) is gorgeous!

I love that it took you guys TWO HOURS until the car was out in reverse! I love her wake up stretch. You guys did pretty great!

You did it! (Wait until you go to the beach!) How can one little baby need so much to pack and so much time to do so. By the time you reach your destination, there's no energy left! Love the stretch picture and Dad and Lauren's picture. Lauren looking up at you, Lori, is just too precious. Love, Mom
