Sheryl Crow Type of Girl

As acquiescent residents of the O.C., Lorraine and I often look 50 miles to the north to find missing elements of hipness and cultural diversity that we left behind in NYC and London. It's convenient that my parents reside in Santa Monica and we often use their place as home base for our day trips and weekends in LA.

As Sheryl Crow sings: "This ain't no disco, It ain't no country club either, This is LA!" - and we've been living up to her denotations as we've spent the past two weekends "introducing" Lauren to different parts of LA. As it turned out, two of our friends from NY/NJ were in town on separate weekends so they were able to meet Lauren as well.

Two weekends ago, Mike, my longtime friend from NJ, was staying in Santa Monica and we met for lunch...

Mike, you should expect all babies to cry in your presence - you're an OB doctor! *grin*

Last weekend, we met up with Kathleen, from NY, who was staying at the very hip The Standard hotel smack in the heart of downtown. I've always felt that the downtown LA skyline was very intriguing and am still drawn in by its allure...

We met Kathleen on the rooftop of the Standard...

Kathleen, we hope the experiences during your stay in LA revealed a new bestowal in life.

Two final points:

1. I know, I know. It seems as if Lauren lives in that polka-dot coverall. It's been a wee bit chilly here and who knew we should be buying baby clothes from North Face to keep her warm?! Her onesies underneath are different!

2. That bar/pool rooftop of the Standard is a very cool place. As it entered early evening and a steady stream of the "beautiful people" were coming in, Lorraine and I both had the same realization: just a year ago, we used to be this cool and passed our hours in joints like this but now we seemed so out of place. I'm sure that when the Beautifuls saw us, with baby and car seat, sharing the same party ground as them, we must have knocked the hip factor down a few notches on the place. But hey, we're happy and it was Sunday, family day, right? But as reality and sleep fatigue from the prior night's surprise 3am feeding and poopy diapers set in, it was clear that all I wanted to do was sleep - until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard...

You are quite the writer! My goodness, most of my friends haven't even been to the Standard, and here's Lauren, not even two months old, and she's already been to one of the hippest places in LA!

I can't believe I made the babyblog!! I enjoyed meeting the WHOLE family in living color. And, I feel I truly connected with those who are important in my life -- my birthbrother, Jay, was one -- and the Lee family is the other. Thanks for making time (and the effort as I know you have been sleep-deprived) for me, it means more than you probably realize!
