Well, as most of you know, we were waiting to close on a house we had built in Irvine early this month. Last week, we received word from the builders, John Laing Homes, that due to the housing crisis and current economic environment, they were suspending all construction projects and pending sales transactions - immediately.
Translation: there will be incomplete buildings and empty lots with no construction activity; and anyone who was in escrow and had not closed yet, would not be sold their house. Technically, this is a suspension and they don't know when our home (and the others) will come back on the market and at what price. We've been given all of our money back that was in escrow and have been told we will have right of first refusal once it's back on the market. But given our tumultuous experience with this builder over the past 6 months, we may not buy it (unless it's an offer we can't refuse). Even so, it's just been bad karma.
In the meantime, we've moved into a larger apartment in our current complex, arranged a month-to-month agreement, and will be secure as we look into our home buying future. We'll be sending everyone our updated home address.
The search continues...

JohnDawn Reception - Happy New Year!
My mom's side of the family always meets on New Year's Day for an extended reunion. This year, we combined it with an LA reception for John and Dawn's wedding. Mom and Lauren were a dynamic duo:
